Barelas Coffee House
About this place
Barelas Coffee House anchors a corner of Albuquerque with the kind of hospitality Platefolk looks for: a cozy dining room, patio seating, and a room that does not try too hard.
The menu keeps attention on what the kitchen actually cooks well: coffee, plates built for sharing, and the kitchen's daily strengths. It suits a slow brunch as easily as a quick weekday stop. Portions and pacing favor a real meal, not a tasting-room sprint.
Bring friends who like unhurried meals, or come solo with a book and a long drink. Weeknights usually run quieter than weekends. The listing address is 1502 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
Put simply: Barelas Coffee House is a Albuquerque place we would send a friend to - especially if they care about coffee done with care.
Guests often mention the patio as part of why they linger. Double-check details before you go - kitchens change, and Platefolk prefers honest updates over frozen claims.
What we value here is consistency: a kitchen that repeats its strengths, a room that does not treat guests like tickets, and a Barelas Coffee House visit that still feels worth the trip across town. Bring curiosity, order something the staff recommends, and leave a short note afterward so the next diner arrives wiser.

One of the best place to get New Mexican food! Very friendly service and reasonably priced.Only negative thing to point out are the location and scarcity of parking spots around.
This is the best breakfast spot in town. The chile is just right and the tortillas are from Sabroso Foods and taste just like grandma rolled em out. I can’t say enough great things about this Albuquerque breakfast gem. Make sure to ask for Donna when you go in. She’s the best waitress around town!
I thought I had already eaten the best enchiladas in town, until a good friend of mine took me to Barela's coffee shop to eat. The food was absolutely out of this world and the service was great !
An epic breakfast. Barelas is a cultural icon and they should be considering it for a World Heritage Site. This is the best breakfast in Albuquerque, new Mexico and perhaps the world. Excellent, considerate and attentive service as always and a friendly, casual atmosphere. The breakfast itself packs a nice heat and depth and combines nicely with their home made flour tortilla to clean up.Once you have finished your breakfast I recommend a visit to the nearby shop The Man’s Hat Shop - ignore the title, all are welcome.Once this is complete you will have the world at your feet. You are ready for a great day. Enjoy
Absolutely love this place! Been going since I was five years old and I’m 41 now. Staff is always kind, food is great, and atmosphere is Homie.
The service was excellent, 10/10The restaurant has a diner and family feel with beautiful outdoor seating. You can just tell the locals love it here. The food came out so quick, which usually makes me nervous. The meat was tasty and tender. The hash browns were good. However my eggs tasted like it was not made to order, like it was just seating there for awhile. I love eggs and a restaurant who can't get eggs right is worrisome. The red chilli sauce was runny and forgettable. They got the meats right but everything else I had was mediocre.
Wow!! Ordered the adovada enchilada plate and a breakfast burrito, both were DELICIOUS 🤤 the adovada was so incredibly tender. Plus the service was very welcoming and extremely funny. Our server Donna was cracking us up the whole meal as if we’d know her for years. 10/10 will be returning on our next trip to Albuquerque.
